No! The laws limiting gun ownership presently only apply to the basically honest person who is not motivated to commit crimes of the sort that create this type of outcry. Persons who feel the need to make their way through life by committing such crimes as burglaries; robberies of banks and various other business establishments; and murder will not worry about allowing such a trifling thing as a gun law to interfere with their criminal activities. No matter who among us does not have access to a gun, the criminal will always have access to any number of guns by any means available. So, to me, the current laws limiting gun ownership are themselves extremely limited in being able to help protect the honest citizens of this country.
New laws that would limit gun ownership further will again only apply to the basically honest person without affecting those who commit crimes that involve the use of any sort of firearms - from handguns to automatic weapons to even more potent weaponry. Again, those people who make it their business to live a life of crime will still not be limited by any new laws that would try to keep guns out of their hands. I know that to many I am sounding like a broken record that keeps on repeating itself. Unfortunately, crime statistics do not bear out the current laws limiting gun ownership, much less any new laws that might be passed. I honestly do not know what the current crime statistics are nationwide for our country as a whole, but I feel that, even if crime possibly may have diminished on the average, the amount of decrease would be so minimal as to be almost negligible.
Even if laws were passed to "outlaw" ownership of guns by anyone within the confines of the United States of America, the situation would still be like the bumper sticker that I saw as a youngster in Cushing, Oklahoma, that read: "If Guns Were Outlawed, Only Outlaws Would Have Guns". That observation is truer than most people like to think - or to even admit openly. Another way of looking at this situation is: How many criminals in this country are being prevented from committing various crimes up to and including murder due to these restrictive gun laws? Always keep that question in mind when it comes to a vote for more restrictive gun laws.
Finally, if a law could be passed that would be one hundred percent (100%) enforceable to every man, woman, and child within the reach of that law, I would say "Yes" to such a law being passed. But, sadly, we do not have the means to provide that type of enforcement of even our current gun laws.
