There is always something that interests kids and that they whine to their parents that they must get this new toy or something they see on television that interests them. By giving kids an allowance to what they spend it on is a good idea. It teaches them responsibility and their goal for saving up the money. When they spend their money everywhere, then when they have something that they want, they will have to save up the money all over again.
By giving your kids two dollars a week for doing chores around the house, completing their homework the best they can and it will teach them that money is not an easy thing to get. They will understand that they must spend it wisely or it will be put all to waste. Help them get a safe place to put it in such as a jar or bottle.
Kids will have things that they simply must buy such as a toy. Calculate the price with them and how many weeks must they save it for that wonderful item that they want, and then mark it on the calendar. They will keep track of the days to when they get this great item.
This goes to show them that they simply cannot get anything that they want. Also if they really want something, tell them that is what the allowance is for. They may say that they will not have enough and ask you to give a few upcoming weeks in advance. This is not a good way of teaching your kids to be responsible. They will keep doing that and later on it will just be the parents simply buying the
By doing this it does not teach them to be responsible and work hard for the money. Instead it will only make them think that my parents will buy them for me. They may never learn to be responsible and giving up other things for those that they really want.
Some parents may find that their kids want to buy food. Such as when they go to a restaurant for a sandwich, kids may ask their parents if they could use their own money to by food. This however is not the best idea for kids to buy food. When it comes to food, parents should buy it and not kids.
If when parents tell their kids to buy what they want with their own money, it can result that their hard work can go to waste to a meal at MacDonald's or at Kentucky Fried Chicken. They will not appreciate their own hard work. If this happens, as parents should monitor their kids allowance such as to spend on things that last instead of meals.
Some think that kids should not get allowance due to the fact of they may not spend it wisely. As parents know from going to work everyday for nine or ten hours, it can be very difficult to earn money, and kids will seem to let it go to waste. Parents should do something called an annual savings plan.
Tell your kids that to save the money and save it for a whole year, and then they will have a lot of money. When they really want something, tell them there is a special day where they can get lots of their toys cheaper. That day is so called Boxing Day. Since it happens annually, they will want to wait for that them to come. If by giving them two dollars a week, they will have over one hundred dollars to spend.
The first year may seem a bit more difficult because they may not understand what you are talking about, but later on it will do a great deal for them.
