Poetry: Handle with Care
My Bipolar Love: Handle with Care
What is this animal between us?
Why does it rear its head?
Sometimes we have it all together,
Other times it falls apart.
"I hate you," you say
with tears overflowing.
"I love you," I say.
with hidden tears.
"I love you, Mom," you say.
Your tears glisten, unshed.
"I know. I love you, too," I say.
My tears flow unbidden.
"Why can't I be like others?" you ask.
"Because you are you," I say.
"Why can't you be like others?" I ask,
my words spoken only in silence.
"How will we survive?" I wonder.
"How will you make it? Will you make it?"
"I'll be alright," you promise,
with doubt evident in your words.
You love riding the roller coasters.
I hate them. Our life is a daily roller coaster.
You love the excitement of thriller movies.
I hate them. I live a thriller movie with you.
Sometimes I think I hate you.
Sometimes I know I love you.
Sometimes I know I can't think at all.
Sometimes, I know you will be okay.
I am so proud of you; so many times it was said you can't.
But, in spite of all the fears and emotions, you did.
I hope you will always be proud of yourself,
Knowing that above all, YOU DID IT!

Be gentle as you handle me,
I am so sensitive you see.
I see, I feel, I react,
I live and thrive,

It shall retaliate with vengeance and death
Yet we insist that it transform itself
