Spring is a great time to enjoy the outdoors. With the grass turning green, the flowers blooming, and wildlife becoming more active, it's fun to watch nature wake up from its extended nap. You can also bring that celebration of renewal indoors and make Spring a part of your home decor. Here are a few ideas:
1. Start seedlings for your garden.
A tray of tiny green chutes in miniature terra cotta pots is an ideal way to enjoy spring inside. When the seedlings are ready, you can transplant then to your garden and have beautiful flowers or fresh vegetables in the summer.
2. Bring in cut flowers.
The blooms from your garden will make an excellent table centerpiece. Put them in a vase and they can decorate any area in your home. Flowers can also be dried using silica gel and used in dried arrangements, which are another great way to add a natural touch to your home.
3. Switch out accessories.
Items like throw pillows, bed spreads, and window valences are easy to interchange. Replace dark colored accent items in heavy fabrics with light colored accessories and breezy fabrics like gauze or crepe. If you don't have the storage space to put your winter accessories away, try sewing new pillows shams and duvet covers to dress up your old accents with a fresh spring look. You can even make slip covers to change the look of upholstered furniture.
4. Repot your houseplants in bold new containers.
Houseplants generally need to be repotted every few years. If you have some root bound plants, then Spring is a good time to transfer them into new containers. Make sure that the new pot is only slightly larger than the old one, and always choose a container with good drainage.
Now that your plants are in stylish new pots, showcase them by putting them in prominent locations in your home. Calling attention to the green growing things in your home will add to the feeling that Spring has arrived. Be sure to place your plants in places where they will still get the right amount of sunlight. If you need some greenery for a dark corner, use an artificial plant.
5. Change up the wall art.
Temporarily replace your usual artwork with spring-themed prints or a floral wreath (either natural or artificial will work). You can also showcase your spring photos by ordering enlarged prints and framing them. Because framed artwork is flat, it is fairly easy to store under a bed or in the back of a closet. Changing pictures is one of the simplest ways to keep your home decor from getting old.
