Why you don't need to buy an expensive new computer

When deciding to purchase a new computer you are presented with many different options and models. Often people pick a brand name computer such as Dell, for example. These new computers often have more features and options then the basic computer user needs. There is no need to go out and buy an new system when the one you have may have more value then you think.

Older Computers Have Value

It seems that every two or three months we are told by the computer and technology industries that we need to "upgrade" our computers and purchase the latest technology to stay current. Unless you plan to play the latest personal computer video games which do require additional expensive hardware, there is no reason to upgrade the computer you currently have unless it is really old and out of date. Older computers parts can be upgraded over time when they no longer serve the functions you require. Your system will eventually reach a limit as to how much further you can upgrade it and then it would be a good time to change systems. I have been using my current system since 2000 and it has served my needs just fine. The only upgrade I have done is to the video card. You can find many quality computer systems on Internet sites such as eBay which will serve most peoples computing needs.

Upgrade Options

There are many upgrades you can do to your current system to extend its life which are less expensive then buying a completely new system. One of the basic computer user requirements is storage capacity. You can find many inexpensive external storage drives which will hold more date then most people could ever use. Another options would be to upgrade your current hard drive and transfer your existing data to the new drive. Memory sticks can be added which will give an older computer a good lift. Your processor can be upgraded to a faster chip. You could add a faster CD Rom, DVD drive, new speakers, or a new monitor. You can save a lot of money by just expanding and updating an older system. If you don't know how to do this you can talk to your local computer repair person. They will be able to help you make decisions on what to upgrade.

Newer Is Not Always Better

We have all heard the stories about Windows Vista and the problems people have with this newer operating system. It is just another example of computer products rushed to the marketplace and not tested completely. Using older software can often provide much more stability then brand new software which is not widely used by the majority of computer users. New software has to be constantly upgraded with new versions that may react negatively to your current computer system and these upgrades usually come rapidly. It is a good idea to wait a few months before upgrading to brand new software. While waiting to upgrade you can keep an eye on the newer version and watch for any potential problems in the newer version.

Look at your upgrade options before choosing to buy a new system. That older system may just have more life in it then you think. Don't rush out and buy a new system without exploring the many options you still have with your current system.
