Love of learning is the most important personality trait that parents and teachers can impart on children in order to make them successful in the workplace. We live in a world of change and it is unlikely that even the most basic jobs will remain unaffected as technology continues to move forward so it is unlikely that anyone will be able to be successful in any job without the ability to learn and adapt, but how do you teach a children to enjoy to learn. First you must understand how the child learns. Second, you must teach them the advantages of learning and third you must make it seem like the natural thing to do.
Before you begin any of this you must understand how a child learns. Much of the frustration may children, parents and teachers have is the assumption that all children learn alike. This is incorrect, every child learns in a different way and the more you understand how each child works the easier you can make learning for them. The most common types of learning styles are, verbal, logical, visual, musical, physical, extrovert and introvert. And to make it even more complicated no child is entirely one of these but a mix of them. Just understand that attempting to teach a musical child with logic may work but it won't be as effective or fun and if you force the wrong style on them it can make learning frustrating and something they will assume they are bad at.
Second is making them understand the advantages of learning. This does not simply helping them to understand that there are careers which require it but the enjoyment of knowing the answer, the joy of discovering something new, the power of being right. All children to find the answers to questions themselves and have them explain it to you. Encourage children to experiment with learning in situations like cooking or counting their own money.
Third you should make learning seem natural. Read to you children every night and read for yourself. When your child asks why the sky is blue don't tell him you don't know, find out. Play music that stimulates the mind, play games that require thought. Do your business studies with your children when you can. Make them understand that the process of learning isn't something odd that some people do but the continual process of human life.
All children are capable of learning and all children like to do it but many adults have learned that learning is something difficult. It means sitting quietly in a classroom for hours quietly listening to someone else talking or reading boring books that no one could care about. Help them understand that this is only one way to learn and they will be on their way to a lifetime of learning and success.
