Recipes: Amazing chicken wings

by Laura Kleban

Created on: April 03, 2009

One of my favorite party appetizers of all time is WINGS! I just love chicken because it is so versatile, and chicken wings are no different. Here are three different (and easy) ways to make wings for your next party or just for a fun night at home with the family. Look for the sister article to this recipe, coming soon, where I give you a few different ideas for wing dipping sauces!

Traditional Buffalo Wings:

Ingredients:

20 small chicken wings, joint wing removed

1 Cup Red Hot sauce (or hot sauce of choice)

stick butter

1 TBS White Vinegar

tsp. cayenne pepper

tsp. red pepper flakes

tsp. garlic salt

Dash black pepper

Place the wings in a 9x13x2 baking dish lined with foil. Bake the wings uncovered at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes. While the wings are cooking, make the wing sauce in a small saucepan by melting the butter first, and then adding the remaining ingredients. Remove the chicken from the oven after 30 minutes, pour the sauce over them and toss to coat. Cover tightly with foil and continue to bake the wings for another 20 minutes. Serve with blue cheese dressing and celery.

Szechwan-Style Wings:

These wings are very easy and come out with an oriental flavor. I usually eat them plain!

Marinade:

3 TBS orange juice

cup soy sauce

3 TBS toasted sesame oil

2 tsp chopped garlic

1 tsp. sugar

1 tsp. brown sugar

2-3 TBS chopped green onions

Marinate the chicken wings overnight if possible in the marinade and grill them over medium high flames for 5 minutes per side. These wings can also be baked at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until well done.

Mustard Wings:

This sauce is a twist on honey mustard, and is great for baking wings! The sauce can also be saved and used for up to two weeks if kept tightly covered.

Sauce Ingredients:

3 TBS butter

1 cup yellow mustard

1/3 cup red wine vinegar

1/3 cup white wine vinegar

1/3 cup sugar

1 TBS Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

2-3 dashes hot sauce

Heat the butter in a small saucepan and add remaining ingredients. Simmer slowly, stirring well for 15-20 minutes. Spread about 20 wings on a foil-lined baking sheet, drizzle with the sauce, and bake for 40 minutes at 375 degrees until done. Serve with extra sauce for dipping!
