Poetry: Don't pity me

by Jane Allyson

Created on: April 03, 2009   Last Updated: August 09, 2011

I drew the flash of temper,
I am the one to blame.
I made the heart grow heavy,
I caused the eyes to flame.

I was weak and simple minded,
And I always asked for more,
Don't pity my welts and bruises,
Or my damaged inner core.

I am ugly, sad and useless,
Don't deserve to live a life,
I must be quiet, be no trouble,
Be a good and loving wife.

All my strength has seeped away,
All my love has turned to ash,
I feel an empty void,
As my world begins to crash.

There is a little solace,
At the bottom of the pit,
For I know the magic cure,
Will only hurt a little bit.

So please feel no pity,
I really just need peace,
You can never comfort me,
My heart is not for lease.

I hold a shining ribbon,
To the contours of your throat,
And I feel a singing in my head,
As I begin to gloat.

No more miserable beatings,
No more guilt and bloodless pain,
No more sorrow in the morning,
No broken hearts again.

So please don't pity me, truly,
For my blade is nearly spent.
And I shall tell you once again,
My heart is not for rent.
