Making money at poker is all about having that edge over the other players.By mastering all the math part and the psychological things that go along with poker you will be able to make more money than players that do not calculate pot odds at all for example. The more knowledge you can use against your opponents the greater your edge will be.
Learn all the basics of poker, always remember that a hand's value changes according to position along with all the basic strategy
Always play limits according to your bankroll size and never play your entire bankroll as any pro will tell you, once again it's all about having the edge and making profit over the long run,so you want to last awhile, you will not last long playing with half or your entire bankroll.A good rule when playing tournaments is to have fifty buy ins,so if you have fifty dollars you would only be able to afford 1$ tournaments,it might seem like a small amount but this is what matters, you play amounts that do not effect you so you are not influenced to make bad decisions.
I suggest you get a program that displays your estimated pot odds on your hands if you play online poker,it saves a headache.Poker pros are always doing math when they play poker, they wonder how much can they win versus the chances of winning, how likely their opponents are to be bluffing, what they think their opponent has...They think many many things are there is quite frankly a never ending knowledge bank to poker, however poker math and basic strategy can be mastered rather easily, the psychology part never ends.
In a nut shell, you want to read your opponents and not overbet your bankroll and make sure you are making mathematically correct decisions in your play.
-Odds and outs
Poker has a whole lot to do with odds and outs, pot odds and outs are a bit complex to understand and there is many different kind of odds when it comes to poker.Pot odds are the chances to win in relevance with how much there is in the pot ,outs are the number of cards that can help you, then there is implied odds like how likely your opponent is bluffing or made the better hand and if you will actually win if you do make your hand.
As you can see there is much to know about poker, and it's just best to learn what other players are not using. Not many low limit players calculate pot odds for example, this gives you an edge.Usually the better players are the ones with the most poker knowledge and experience.
