Separation
Now there are silences between us, the keeping
of things
apart, like words
we don't offer to confess any more.
In place of argument
there is silence, with
things left
to say, words
sealed hermetically in a vacuum
which refuses passage.
There is a calm, falling
across our kitchen
like the gray natural light of morning.
There are things we do not say,
because we have separated, and this
is maybe the biggest of all the changes still to come.
There are no more hurt feelings,
no wounds to lick
arguments to prepare
defenses to muster.
No more sleeping in separate bedrooms,
waking up alone
passing in the hall.
We move on into our futures,
silence the keeper between us.

How sweet it was as your main attraction.
But now I am an unwanted distraction.
No longer is your love still true.
Oh, but
