Poetry: Handle with care

by Nina Medeiros

Created on: April 02, 2009

Birth: (handle with care)

31 long hours

I clung, while

the walls of my mother shook

contracting around gloved hands

that came in with knives

to draw me, out

by force.

I was red-faced and angry when I arrived,

surrender makes me angry every time.
