Museum reviews: Sci-Quest, Huntsville, AL

With over a hundred permanent hands-on exhibits in seven areas of science, kids of all ages keep coming back again and again for laughter, fun, and learning. Sci-Quest was founded by a group of volunteers in 1989 and was open to the public in 1990. This museum helps children learn about science, mathematics, and technology. They also give the students a better look at careers in these fields.

Hours of Operation

Sci-Quest is open to the public seven days a week. Monday through Friday they are open from 9am to 5pm. Saturday they are open from 10am to 6pm and on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm.

Admission

General admission is going to cost $9 for adults, $8.50 for children, and $8 for seniors. Members can enjoy free admission. Tickets to the Immersive Theatre will cost extra whether you're a member or not. The Virtual Vortex is $3 and the Hi-Def Cinema is $2. When the Roaming Dome is available, you can add admission to it for only $2.

Field Trips and Group Programs

There are a variety of programs designed specifically for groups. Each grade level has their own program choices that do change from year to year. Programs are separated into PreK-Kindergarten, grades 1-2, grades 3-5, grades 6-8, and high school. Each program challenges student to learn through interactive activities.

Basic group admissions are $6 per student, $3 per student for Science LIVE, a half hour program for $3 and an hour program for $6. You can combine admission with any of the extra programs.

Sci-Quest requires one chaperone for every ten students grades PreK -12th grade. Chaperones are free, but any chaperones over the required limit must pay the group rate.

Membership

As with most museums, buying a membership can save a family money in the long run. With membership you will receive unlimited admission, half price tickets for one guest each visit, newsletter, 10% discount in the shop, special previews of new exhibits and the Immersive Theatre plus more. A family membership and grandparent membership both cost $75. The extended family membership allows you to add on two more adults and costs $95. By becoming a supporting member, you will also receive twelve guest passes to use for only $115. A patron member costs $500 and you will also receive 50 guest passes. Homeschool

The second Wednesday of each month is reserved for homeschool programs. The programs and times vary depending upon age group. There is a program for every age from 4years
