The Price of Pain
I didn't want to share it
Didn't want to tell a soul
Not even my inner being
Who knew it all too well
It's not an easy task
Admitting I was wronged
The sheer pain of rejection
From where I once belonged
Suddenly I'm floundering
Without a friend in sight
Just dying to find comfort
And make everything alright
The lessons that I learned
Came at quite a price to pay
The school of what not to do
Had an awful lot to say
I learned that wounds compile
Layer upon layer until
Inner peace is hidden
By a faithful act of will
And if I keep reflecting
On the pain of yesterday
I'm certain I will suffocate
Without much left to say
