Poetry: Locked out your heart

"Where No One Dares to Tread"

I looked into his brazen eyes and ventured towards his soul;
and traveled deep within the realm where few would dare to go.
I found a solemn empty place, brought upon by his own will;
where no one dared to tread and love could never fill.

A regal wall stood all around, its structure made of stone,
and altho' the stage was quaintly set, no one sat upon the throne.
The velvet chair was tattered, and tarnish lay upon the crown,
but one could see the beauty of that which was no longer found.

I could see the tear stains upon the royal bed,
after two hearts went to battle and angry words were said.
A dreadful sense of loneliness sent shivers up my spine
as I envisioned all the anger that had come to pass with time.

Now the gates were guarded and a seal placed upon the door.
No one is allowed in or to tread upon the stately floor.
Such a lovely place, I thought, should be tended to with care;
should never be left idle, but left open to be shared.

    Sweet girl, I know of the yearnings,

    The hurt and the jealousy, too,
