SHUSH
My heart lies like a wounded thing,
I scoop it up,
Steady thud.
So loud, I fear it will break its mantle of glass.
Stop moaning, I say.
Steady thud.
A kaleidoscope of pain swirls in,
Now crimson, now gold, now battered blue.
Stop screaming, I say.
Steady thud.
Be quiet, I say.
Frost curls in,
Thin talons gripping and squeezing.
Stop , I say, just stop.
This is not how it should be.
Steady thud.
A whispered prayer.
It's too much.
Way too much.
Steady thud.
Shush, I say.
Steady thud.
Shush.
