Poetry: Locked out your heart

SHUSH

My heart lies like a wounded thing,
I scoop it up,
Steady thud.

So loud, I fear it will break its mantle of glass.
Stop moaning, I say.
Steady thud.

A kaleidoscope of pain swirls in,
Now crimson, now gold, now battered blue.
Stop screaming, I say.
Steady thud.

Be quiet, I say.
Frost curls in,
Thin talons gripping and squeezing.
Stop , I say, just stop.
This is not how it should be.
Steady thud.

A whispered prayer.
It's too much.
Way too much.
Steady thud.

Shush, I say.
Steady thud.
Shush.
