I have been banking with Wachovia for about three years and the only problem I have faced was when a friend was added to my account so that he could transfer funds while he was deployed. The purpose was so that I could pay his bills while he was gone. However, he had his own account and accounts with another family member that wasn't local. The problem arose when his family member would overdraw their account. Because he was linked to all of these accounts, Wachovia took money from my account to cover his family member's insufficient account. It didn't matter that I wasn't on his family member's account, they just looked at the fact that he was on all of them. I was never able to recover the money I lost. It was a learning experience, and the problem was resolved when I removed him from my account.
Wachovia has a variety of checking accounts to choose from. I can't say which one is the best because each person has different needs. All I can do is provide you will some information that will help you in deciding which account type might be good for you.
Unmatched Free Checking
There aren't any monthly fees to worry about. You have unlimited check writing and unlimited use of Wachovia ATMs. It takes $100 to open an account but because there is not a minimum balance required you don't have to maintain $100 in your account.
Free Student Checking
With college students in mind, Wachovia has a Student Checking Account available. It includes everything the Free Checking does, plus includes a free savings account and one free overdraft refund. They also give you the option of linking it to their parents' account. This allows parents to transfer money directly to their college students account.
Access Fifty Checking
Design for those over fifty, Wachovia brings all of the benefits of Free Checking plus giving senior a discount on their checks. Most checks will cost only $5 per box and if you select checks outside that category, you will simply get $5 off checks in other categories.
Crown Banking
This is much different than the free checking accounts. You must maintain a $4,000 to $5,000 balance and there is a $20 a month fee if you go below the minimum balance. Wachovia gives you free crown checks, a Gold Check Card, free incoming domestic wire transfers, free certified checks and money orders, free traveler's checks, a free notary and a free safe deposit box. This type of account does earn interest.
Crown Classic Banking
Crown Classic includes everything Crown Banking does except
