Basic computer training

located on the Internet and to communicate via e-mail. The online environment has become the primary means of communication in society and people who aren't "connected" lose out on a lot of useful benefits and also information.

Once a new user is familiarized with how to start the computer and use the input devices, such as the keyboard and the mouse, they can graduate to learning how to use an Internet browser and connect online.

*Software

Software is an important part of the computer and is also a part of basic computer training. This doesn't mean in-depth knowledge of all of the features of word processing and spreadsheet need to be known, but it is helpful to at least know the basics. This includes how to open a program, create a document, save the document and then know how to find it again once it is saved.

*Computer Safety

While this is a bit more advanced than the basics, it is important for a new computer user to have a basic understanding of safe Internet usage and how to not expose themselves to the dangers of the Internet.

This isn't really much different than offline behavior, most users will find they can easily apply the knowledge they learned as a child about talking to strangers and giving out personal information and transition this knowledge to using the Internet.

It is valuable to get acquainted with a computer in today's world. While it may seem confusing at first, once you get the hang of it, you'll probably enjoy it. If you've gotten this far, you understand how to connect to the Internet and find information, this is a great start! However, if you want to learn more, there are several avenues you can take if you don't want to teach yourself.

To learn how to use different applications, understand basic file management and how to navigate your computer, you may want to check with your local community college, public school system, library or other county agency; many of these organizations offer basic computer training for a nominal fee. Most offer specialized courses so you can pick the topics you want or need to learn about.
