I wish I could have gone out west
Back when the cowboys rode
When Indians were warriors
And buffalo roamed free
To ride beside a wagon train
Would be the life for me
Sleeping on the ground beside
A warm and glowing fire
Hunting for our supper
Bathing in a crystal stream
That would have been a wondrous time
An adventure, it would seem
But, now I have to be content
To watch them on TV
Dreaming of that bygone era
And what it means today
They fought and won our freedom
They earned our right to stay
If it weren't for cowboys
And the hardships they endured
We might be living differently
One can hardly guess
What the world would be like now
If we hadn't tamed the west

Heeding the call out west
Leaving your world behind
Seemed to be a noble quest
Uncertain of what you would find
Spirit
Far out west is where my heart was won
next to a pickling cactus in the midday sun.
It was a day when not a lizard stirred
not
Out west we have
A history all our own
We took this land
(Some say stole)
And made it our home.
It started with "Manifest Destiny"
Chasing
out west
west of the Pecos
west of the Mississippi
the landscape wide
the landscape tall
unbound by eastern convention
western
Their fires hugged the eastern shore
Close to their ships for good measure
Some in chains, some with promises
All with hopes
