"Images of Heroes"
Bits of color and light and shape
Are captured through my camera lens
Fear and pain in an instant gain
The status of art;
Frozen in digital formats,
Printed and emailed,
Wondered at and archived
And forgotten
By living men.
But these images of heroes
Will for history remain
As testament and tribute
To what has happened here in this place.
To show but not explain.
This place of echoing gunfire and shuddering explosions
And the stench of death and the almost dead
And sadly, where poetry seems out of place,
Yet is the only thing that can make sense of it
And the only thing that comes to my mind
Along with these images of heroes...
The staring eyes and these words in verse and rhyme
Transcend this small, overwhelming moment in time

Being framed in my mind
Galloping horses

The time thief came to haunt me in my dreams again.
I woke up one morning to find myself
