A typically healthy and normal gum does not easily or spontaneously bleed when you brush your teeth. In case your gums do bleed when you brush your teeth, it is actually not quite a normal thing. Something could be amiss here. Let's check out what causes this and what you can do to treat it.

CAUSES: ~

1) Wrong toothbrush or flossing technique.

Gum bleeding or injury could simply occur due to an unsuitable toothbrush you use. A toothbrush with hard or splayed bristles obviously will not be so kind to your soft gum. Proper brushing technique with a suitable toothbrush is clearly the best thing you could do to protect your gum from unnecessary bleeding. Pick a toothbrush with a soft bristles and change it when it is not suitable. If you also use floss, make sure you know how to do it correctly without any undue stress to your gums.

2) Gum disease.

A healthy gum did not easily bleed. If you have an unhealthy gum, you are more likely to have bleeding gums. Gum disease makes bleeding more prone because there is more blood in the surrounding area of the defense cells which is being called up to fight off the bacteria. Long process of bacterial built-up in the gums area simply comes from lack of proper clean-up or rinsing after each meal times. It needs a strict discipline to maintain a good oral hygiene. Be ignorant, and one day you may found that the dental plaque is too much and your gums are now affected and easily bleed.

3) Vitamin C deficiency.

Vitamin C is needed to maintain a good and healthy gum. You should eat lots of fresh fruits that are rich in Vitamin C like papaya, guava, lemon and also other green vegetables. This will help your gums to stay healthy. It is important to lead a balanced and healthy life style because all factors combining could either deteriorate or improve your gum condition.

4) Some sickness or blood disorder.

Some kind of sickness or blood disorder could make your gums bleed. Bleeding disorders may occur when your body is reacting to certain kind of disease or fever. Dengue fever with a strong attack like Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) will cause your gums to bleed. Other sickness that may cause gum bleeding includes leukemia, diabetes, infection, scurvy, bleeding disorder and the result of pregnancy where there is higher blood concentration in your body.
