How to pick the best HDTV

system, so there shouldn't be too many problems in this area. These factors are not stand alone issues, mind you, all of them as a whole should be considered together to get the best HDTV for your needs.

Contrast Ratio - What is it? You will see all kinds of numbers in relation to this feature. 800:1, 1200:1, 400: 1. What do they mean? To put it simply, contrast ration is the ratio of luminance of the color of the brightest white to that of the color of the darkest black that a TV is able to produce. So if your TV has a 500:1 contrast ratio then that means that the blacks displayed on the screen are 500 times darker than the whites on the screen. Naturally, many people want a high contrast ratio and this can be a good thing but be careful because it isn't everything. You will have to take into consideration the room your television will be in. Does it have a lot of natural sunlight? Will the HDTV be watched mainly during the day? Will the TV be in a dark room? Do you watch TV more at night? If so, do you watch it mostly in a dark room or in a room with lots of ambient light? Reflective lights? If you will be watching your TV mostly at night you won't need a television with a very high contrast ratio. if your TV will be in a room that has a lot of light, you will want this ratio to be high. When you go shopping bring a DVD with you that has very dark and very light scenes to see how the TV you are looking at can handle the color and picture. How does it look to you? That's what really counts.

Screen Size - It seems everyone is always trading up on screen size when it's time to get that new television and the great thing about HDTVs is that because they are so thin - and becoming even thinner as time goes by, it means that the you can get more TV without having to sacrifice huge amounts of space. They also look very sleek and modern, very eye catching. What size works for you is purely up to you. Large screens such as 42-inch screens and larger work well in large dens or living rooms, smaller ones work well in bedrooms or kitchens. If you entertain friends often, especially during football season, basketball season or Super Bowl Sunday you might want to think about getting a large screen TV. It's a lot more enjoyable for a large crowd to watch movies or the game on a large screen. Otherwise smaller screens will work just fine for regular family viewing. This particular factor really depends solely on your own desires.

Connectivity - This is one that first time
