Fibromyalgia symptoms

by Maudie

All about the fibromyalgia syndrome.

This disease is a condition of musculosketal pain and severe fatigue that is accompanied by disturbed sleep. A person that has this could sleep for hours and hours, but when the person wakes up, you definitely do not feel rested at all. You definitely will feel a lot worse than when you first went to sleep. You also have other symptoms that you most often will have along with the pain and severe fatigue. If you are of the female gender, you will have a better chance of getting fibromyalgia then if you are of the male gender.

When you are going to a doctor to see what is making you so sick, there is not a certain test or x-ray that a doctor can do to get a diagnosis. When you are at the doctor's office to get checked by your doctor, there are certain questions that he can ask. Also he will do a brief physical examination on you. First, the doctor will be asking the history of what symptoms you may be having. When the doctor is doing the physical examination, he will be checking various areas of the body which are called tender points. There are eighteen tender points, but if you have pain upon pressure on eleven of these areas, it will confirms the diagnosis.

Most doctors do not think that having fibromyalgia is a serious condition because it does not damage vital organs and it will not kill you! People who have this disease like I do, do not appreciate or enjoy our lives with fibromyalgia. As far as I am concerned, a person who has fibromyalgia does not have a life.

To have a chronic illness, you need to be able to have control over how your body condition is, but when you have a chronic illness like fibromylgia you do not have control, because of changing symptoms and flare-ups. So trying to make plans for something in the future is not what I can do; because of this disease I can not make plans to do something tomorrow, because I will not know how far down I will be until tomorrow.

When you are diagnosed with fibromylgia, you will have many physiological problems, cognitive function problems and psychological problems; so when you have this disease it is not the only one you will have, but many more. I think that when you come down with this particular chronic disease or if you come down with another one, the best thing to do is learn what your body will be able to do, and don't push it. As for me, I know that I have God right with me all of the way through this. This to me is a great relief, to know that I have God and he will always be there for me.
