Courtesy: A winning strategy for promoting yourself on the Internet

The Internet is a unique tool, and because it links computers around the globe, it has changed the way that people will interact with each other. No longer do you need to be face to face to interact with someone, and no longer is it necessary to sit down with a person in order to do business with them. As Internet promotion becomes a bigger tool for those who are looking to promote themselves, or the work that they do, it is important to establish yourself as a welcoming source.

Since you will usually never meet the people who are reading your work, it is important that your words really stand out. If you are talking to someone online, they won't have the advantage of seeing your facial expressions when they talk. They won't know if you are being sarcastic, or being funny, so when you chat with someone, make sure you are being clearly positive.

You should be polite because I don't really know you, and you don't know me, so why are my words so important? If you are constantly rude, and constantly antagonizing people, why should they read your work? Like I said, they don't know you, and so there are a million other people whose works can be read. There is no personal attachment, so leaving you for being rude isn't a big deal.

Being polite on-line helps because the Internet is really used for gathering a community of people all looking to advance themselves. The Internet is a huge network, and networking yourself is a huge part of getting ahead in any business. Just like you want a good reputation to proceed yourself in the business world, the same applies to the Internet.

A polite, and courteous attitude on-line sets you apart because it is so much harder to be nice on-line as it is to be mean. It seems like everyone gets a little bolder as soon as the screen names become the only form of identification. It isn't hard to bash someone when you don't see them, and you don't actually have to pay for what you say. If you are nice, it is like water in the middle of a desert, and is something that will attract people to you.

There are plenty of reasons to be polite on-line. It is good to market yourself as a source that people can come too, and if you do that, people will be attracted to you. It will help not only in getting your work read, but in networking your work as well. The more people that come to know and respect your work, the better off you will be. Be nice, be professional, and you will have a good chance of success on the Internet.
