Article ToolsThe UK - or rather, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is the country so far as international law. It is governed by the Parliament in Westminster, London. Tony Blair and the Queen are Prime Minister and Queen of more than just England, you know.
Great Britain is primarily a geographical term - it's the name of the largest island off of the northwest coast of France. It's divided into three countries - England, Scotland and Wales. England, while being the biggest of the three, is the only one without its own parliament.
So if you're from Northern Ireland, you're not from Great Britain (although you might protest that you're British, depending on your background - and after all, there's no particular adjective for 'from the UK'. You might equally protest that you're Irish.). If you're from Scotland, you're British but not English. If you're English, you're both British and from the UK.
