Have you suffered a retinal detachment due to a motor vehicle accident? This is a serious injury that can lead to blindness. If you have suffered such an injury it is something you will want to talk to a lawyer about. It is not insignificant by any means. Threats to your ability to see are taken very seriously by anyone that has the slightest concern for other people.

Retinal detachment is a huge concern for any victim of a motor vehicle accident. If this happens to you, it is vitally important you seek help immediately if you suspect this could have happened to you. Simply stated it can lead to blindness, take no chances with your sight it is too important.

How it can happen:

One of the most frequent causes for retinal detachment is any motor vehicle accident. This is exasperated by striking an airbag, as in most moderate to serious accidents. Your face impacts an airbag at the massive velocity of up to 280 miles per hour, the bag alone inflates at 200 miles per hour. Often the feeling is not like you ran your face into a wall at such speeds but your eye is very sensitive instruments. Retinal detachment is entirely possible from striking an airbag alone. If you struck anything else the chances go up dramatically.

Symptoms:

Symptoms of retinal detachment can include flashes of light, a darkening of the peripheral vision area, and showering of specks of things in the middle of your vision. These often appear as threads and other odd items not normally occluding your vision. Although retinal detachment itself causes no pain you may be in pain from other parts of your accident. If you suspect in any way that this has happened to you in a recent accident get to an eye specialist at once. On a weekend go to the ER take no chances because we do not want to see you lose your vision.

Even if you have already been to the ER for your accident the later incidence of these symptoms should not be ignored. If your retina has torn away from its supporting tissues it can not work properly. Permanent vision loss is a strong possibility. If you have suffered a retinal detachment in a past motor vehicle accident the decrease in your visual acuity that could have resulted from that accident is a permanent injury that you will have
