be wrong, and that the roles of a god figure could be a lot less personal and a lot less perceptible. The role of the god being to start evolution rather than creating everything 5000 years ago as the bible says.
Looking at both theories critically, at some level neither are completely infallible and accurate. However since evolution is a proven scientific fact and that young earth ideas are irrefutably wrong, general creationism is a lot more valid. Thinking along these lines, god might have started the process of evolution on our planet in some way, but would have been much less directly involved than creating everything individually. In this respect god isn't directly concerned with the day to day actions of our planet, and might have even created the world as a byproduct of its own actions.
Seemingly then the only reason that evolution and creationism must stay separated is due to stubbornness on either side. General creationism fits in with evolution fairly well, and it is only people who cling to the outdated idea of the bible being true to the letter that don't see this. Of course the fact that the bible has been altered and translated multiple ties since it was written doesn't seem to be acknowledged by the intelligent design brigade either.
The likely outcome of all this arguing back and forth between the different sides of this debate will probably fizzle out as humanity begins to explore space at a more competent level. When you realize that some people insist we are alone in the universe when there are billions of billions of planets out there then the Christian view of creationism seems very limited. Eventually however the idea of a god or creator of the entire universe, but that doesn't know or care about our one insignificant planet might again come to be a popular idea, as explaining the beginning of the universe is still difficult.
