The entry or diffusion of foreign substances or excess amount of natural components in the air or water is referred to as pollution. There are three kinds of common pollutions.
1) Air pollution
3) Noise pollution
1. Air pollution
The oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulphur and hydrocarbons accumulate in atmosphere over and above their tolerable level of concentrations and thus they pollute the air and the phenomenon is called the Air-pollution. Carbon monoxide is produced during the incomplete combustion of fuels like petrol, diesel, natural gas and coal. Its largest quantity is discharged by old vehicles plying on the roads. This gas is very poisonous. It reduces the concentration of hemoglobin of blood, which carries oxygen to body cells. Due to less supply of oxygen in such a case normal metabolism of the body is impaired. It also hinders the Brain's normal functions. Due to such concentration of carbon monoxide in air the mental disturbances are caused to the drivers of the vehicles who inhale carbon monoxide. They lose their control on the vehicle and their grip over the string brake and gears. As result several accidents occur resulting into great loss of life and property. For all the common residents of big towns also excess carbon monoxide in the air cause difficulty in normal inhaling which in turn results into muscular weakness, dullness and lethargy.
Further cigarette and cigar smoking in public places such as cinema halls, auditoriums, and drama theatres, roofed markets and centrally air conditioned banks and others. Commercial organization also cause lot of air pollution both for smoker as well as other who are present in such air tight closed places who breathe the smoked air. The smoke of cigarettes and the cigars of local bodies contain 400-milligram carbon monoxide per cubic meter of air. It together with other gases in the air not fit for breathing cause reduction in the mental performance and even cause heart and chest diseases due to additional stress on blood vessels and lungs of animals and human beings, as they do not get normal supply of oxygen.
By the combustion of sulphurous cola in furnaces as fuel and even in kitchen for cooking meals and for production of steam in steam-locomotives and ship sulphur dioxide, sulphur trioxide are produced. These gases are also produced during smelting of metallic ores and also at the time of preparation of sulphuric acid by contact process. Sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide when they
