group, "Bipolar", on MySpace.com. Weekends once spent in bed are now spent on my computer corresponding with the new friends I have met, creating new friendships, and learning the mountains of information about my disorder. The past three weeks, I have been the happiest I have in a very long time. I asked for two of the members from my group to briefly say something about their experience with MySpace.com. Jennifer, twenty-seven years old, from Oregon expresses, "it is a great place to meet people that you would not normally come across in everyday life. The misuse of Myspace is really such a small demographic." I have had a wonderful experience with Myspace." And Teri, thirty-nine years old, from Oklahoma writes, "The support groups here have been much more helpful and diverse than any of the support groups I've found elsewhere on the web. Plus, I've really been surprised at the number of older people here. I've met more friends here with common interests than I've met in real life."
I was compelled to write this editorial because when I told my mother that I had joined this group, she was very concerned about my privacy, me meeting people from the group in person, and people pretending to be something they are not. I feel because of the stigma that MySpace.com has, she wasn't able to grasp how this group has positively changed and affected my life because of all the negative news put out there about it. The news would not report on a story like this because they only report the bad things about things for ratings and shock value. So Mom I hope you read this email and know that your daughter is more informed and happy person due to MySpace.com.
