Friendship
Friends, have I from many a place,
each one wears a different face.
None can be said to be the same,
into my life, at different times they came.
Some stand with me, no matter what the cause,
some stop to think, with great pause.
Many have encouraged me to carry on,
while others never heard the words in my song.
Several have added knowledge to my mind,
yet others fed me poison, in words, unkind.
I've talked and walked with many I've known,
and through written words, friendships have grown.
Friends don't come in number, but are few,
strangers can patronize or insult and never are true.
Few take time to share their experience and lives.
ready are those, who exaggerate and tell you lies.
I would rather have one friend, tried and true,
than ten who were false in their friendship, that grew.
Maybe I seem picky, with the friendships I choose,
but, I'd rather have the one, than the ten to loose.
