Ultimately there are no short cuts to losing weight; it takes time and commitment to make changes in your life which result in weight loss. There are many products on the market which claim to help you lose large amounts of weight in a short space of time, but they rarely work. Either you don't lose any weight in the first place, or you lose weight extremely quickly which is not only dangerous for your health but also tends not to be a long-lasting solution. The only way to lose weight effectively in the long term is to get into the right mindset and not just focus solely on the process of losing weight, but also on improving overall health and fitness.
It can be easier to focus simply on losing weight, though, because society seems to be obsessed with people's size which clearly impacts on individuals' goals. Overweight and obese individuals tend to become preoccupied with getting down to the right size, rather than improving their health and reaching a size that they can actually maintain. This ends up undermining their efforts as they put themselves under too much pressure to fulfil unrealistic expectations.
It is can become an all-consuming obsession to see the figures on the scales decrease, and to look in the mirror and see a slimmer face and body, and also to be able to fit into clothes which individuals hadn't been able to for years. These results may positively reinforce their desire to lose weight. However, most people have a complex relationship with food, which isn't necessarily altered when they lose the excess weight. That is probably why so many people end up putting the weight they lose back on within a few years.
People generally regard the process of losing weight as a temporary situation, which means they are only thinking about the short-term modifications which need to be made to their lifestyle. For people who have continually struggled with their weight, the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to make fundamental changes to their lifestyle. They need to learn to eat meals regularly which are well-balanced and not too large, as well as making exercise a part of their everyday lives.
An impatience to lose weight can often play a significant part in undermining people's commitment to lose weight, as when they fail to lose substantial amounts week-in week-out it is tempting to fall back on bad habits, and binge on junk food. Losing large amounts of weight is bound to take time, and individuals should try not to become discouraged because it takes longer to lose the excess weight than they would like. The best way to lose weight consistently is for people to make alterations to their lifestyle which they can maintain and to get into the right frame of mind to be able to stick to their goals.
