Movie analysis: Controversey of The Tomb of Christ documentary

In the documentary The Tomb of Christ and the book, The Jesus Family Tomb the authors, Simcha Jacobovici and Charles Pellegrino, claim to have found an ossuary box bearing the name Yeshua Bar Yosef (Yeshua, son of Yosef which they translate to Jesus, son of Joseph), with much evidence that this is in fact the limestone box in which the bones of Jesus were laid.

It would be easy to ignore this evidence as not fitting in with what we believe, but what if the bones found in the ossuary are those of the Son of God? What difference does this make? How does it re-define our faith?

The first reaction is that these simply cannot be his bones, because of our belief in the resurrection. However, if these are his bones, this does not necessarily negate he doctrine of the resurrection. It merely means that we would need to redefine what we believe the resurrection to be.

Was it the Holy Spirit quickening his spirit, without necessarily resurrecting his physical body? There are instances in the Bible which can back up this way of looking at the resurrection, such as the fact that angels have visited men, having the appearance of human beings in all ways, even to eating and drinking.

Jacob wrestled with God and won! How do you physically wrestle with the Creator of all beings Who is Spirit and win? This is why God changed Jacob's name to Israel, which means God Strives.

The Witch/medium of Endor held a seance and was able to raise up the ghost of Samuel for Saul who told Saul that he and his sons would be joining him the very next day. 1 Samuel 28:7-19. So, Biblically, there are such things as ghosts. How does Saul, who has been abandoned by God, get to the same place after death as the prophet Samuel?

For a long time, I've wondered about how what the Bible teaches fits in with the thousands of testimonies to life after death and the spirit world. Having had some experiences of my own, where I've been out of my body, seen a ghost, had a vision, known unpredictable things in advance etc., I know that there is something else to this life another side or dimension that is not in keeping with traditional religious doctrines.

The Son himself raised people from the dead, so he was not then the first to be resurrected from death to resume life in bodily form, which is what I, in my ignorance, thought resurrection to mean.

After his crucifixion the Son spoke with his disciples, offered them to touch him, to feel his wounds, walked and talked with men who initially didn't recognise him. Was his body only spiritual? A ghost with all the appearance of being fully physical?

Can a physical being exist in the heavenly realms? True, some of the Biblical characters were taken up into heaven, apparently in physical form, but were they in their natural bodies?

What does the changing of the mortal into the unperishable immortal in the twinkling of an eye consist of?

All of these questions show that we need to rethink and redefine our traditional and long-held beliefs to those that fit in with the facts. We also need to check the facts are, in fact, fact!
