wash and dry the 2 liter bottles. Cut the top three inches of the bottles off and discard. Then cut in a straight line down each of the bottles, stopping about two inches from the bottom. Cut the bottom two inches off and discard. Take the remaining pieces of plastic from each bottle and cut them in half. Place the butterfly pattern under one of the pieces of plastic. Then use the black paint marker to trace the outline of the butterfly onto the plastic. Repeat this step for each piece of plastic and let the paint outlines dry.
Then use the stain glass paints to paint each of the butterflies. Use as many colors on each butterfly as you like and feel free to paint any type of pattern onto each butterfly that you wish. Be creative and have fun with this step. Before the paint dries, sprinkle the butterflies with the powdered glitter. Next, paint on eyes and antenna using fabric paint then allow the paint to dry.
Once all the paint has dried, cut each butterfly out. Fold each butterfly in half to give it a bit of a curved in look. Finally, center a magnet to the underside of the butterflies and glue into place. Let the glue dry.
Above are just a couple of ways to make beautiful magnets. There are many, many other ways to create your own unique magnets. In fact, with a little imagination, most anything that is small and lightweight can be formed into a magnet.
