Teaching is more than a profession
It is indeed a vocation
I had my calling as a child
My passion for it isn't mild
Looking into the eyes of my students
Their hunger for learning is apparent
They trust me to care and help them learn
Their academic success they will earn
I am much more than a teacher to them
A nurse, a parent, a confident I am
I help them learn and grow
Getting ready for tomorrow
It is my duty to find a way
To reach them every single day
Academics are a small part of my job
As I need to listen and console them when they sob
A light goes on when they understand
I am proud to witness it as they stand
Pride and confidence grow with time
As their successes are sublime
Teaching makes me warm inside
As I stand always on my student's side
I love to help this generation grow
As their future marks tomorrow
Discipline, conflicts and chores may be
The things I hate most in teach thee
Although they are part of my career
I wish away from them I could steer
Teaching is more than a job, it's my life
As I also am a mother and a wife
It is my passion as I say
I am proud to do it every day

Who teaches you?
I teach sometimes.

actually a young man,
but it’s easy to think of him

The usual caesura in classtime
for bathrooms and cigarettes,
for these adults coming at night
to finish.

Though it's not a job of riches,
Nor star studded fame,
Many rewards come with teaching
