Most people don't appreciate the power that food can have on your body, hair and skin. Many just figure that creams, lotions and cleansers will improve the appearance of their skin, but this popular way of thinking is contrary to the truth; food is also a huge factor when skin and hair needs some TLC. Whether the problem you have is dry skin, thinning hair, or a bit of dull skin, food can aid the process of repair, all the while making you feel healthier and more energized.
For those suffering from dry skin there are solutions to bring the skin back to a moisturized state. By drinking plenty of water, the cells of your epidermis, dermis, and interstitial tissues will become hydrated, causing the dry skin to become supple and soft. Avocado and olive oil are also great foods to consume, because the healthy fats in both help the skin retain water, and keep the cell walls strong.
Citrus and kiwi contain potassium that regulates the body's water levels. On the other hand, foods that you should avoid go as follows: tea, coffee, hydrogenated oils and trans fats. Bad fats replace the good fats, which stressed the skin further.
If acne is your problem, there are several foods to reverse this embarrassing skin problem. Bright red and orange fruits, leafy greens and vegetables reduce your body's oil production, and these healthy foods also reduce the redness and swelling of those pesky pimples. Try cantaloupe, tomatoes and carrots. You should stay away from sugar, slat and shrimp, which causes oil glands to over produce.
Puffy eyes can be unattractive and make you seem tired and worn out. If you increase your intake of grapefruit, bananas, and water, your puffy eyes will be reduced dramatically. Salt should be avoided at all costs, due to the fact that it drains your skin of water. Alcohol and preserved foods are also harmful to your puffy eyes.
For people who are looking to smooth out some of their wrinkles, they should consider eating foods rich is antioxidants, color, and Vitamin C. Salmon, blueberries, pomegranates, and red seafood all fit the requirements. A few servings of these powerful foods will leave your skin looking more youthful and radiant. Sugar, on the other hand, is harmful to your skin, and according to the latest studies, it speeds the aging process.
Food is a major component when trying to achieve healthy, beautiful skin. Studies have proved this true, but in most cases, after eating the proper foods, it is visible to the naked eye that the skin looks and feels more supple and radiant.
