One of the most quoted phrases on blogs applies to writing on your blog; "Life happens." Anyone who writes reaches a point when it becomes difficult to continue. It might be the dreaded "writer's block." It could be the writer's changing interests.
Everyone who writes a blog does so for a complex set of reasons. Life happens, things change, yet the blog remains. What are the best reasons for continuing to write on your blog?
The number one reason that anyone writes is that they have something to say. As a blogger, you have been expressing yourself. People have been reading what you write. If you still have a message, an opinion, if you still need to get up on your soap box and wave your arms, then continue with your blog.
A blog is dynamic. If your opinion changes, so can your blog. Or, you can start a second or third or fourth blog on this new topic. Blogging is a way to express yourself and self-expression is a need we all share.
Life happens. It happens to everyone, not just to you. Blogging about the changes in your life allows others to participate in your life. You may gain support from people with similar stories. You may teach others or they may teach you.
Blogging about your life means participating in an entirely different community, a world-wide community. Your readers may come from any and all corners of the globe and your life is enriched by these new people and their perspectives.
Writing, in and of itself, is a process that forces you to organize your thoughts. Writing on your blog organizes your thoughts, and through that, your life may see more structure and stability. By putting "life" down in writing on a blog, you get to look at "life" like a third party would, on a screen instead of as a participant.
Blogging combines that process with a feedback mechanism that you will not find outside of an intensive writing seminar at college. The toughest critics of your writing may appear on your blog as well as your greatest fans. If you aspire to be a writer, or a Writer with the capital W, continuing to write your blog is a must.
All of the best reasons to continue writing on your blog can be boiled down to a simple phrase. Do it for yourself. The reasons that you began to blog may change. The time you have to write your blog may vary. You will change, as a person and as a writer. None of that should stop you from blogging. It just gives you more to blog about.
