Many people are not fans of these cards, as it often seems like the prices are marked up higher than they should be in order to be marked down for supposed savings. However, the prices are what they are, and having the discount card does allow the shopper to have access to the savings and promotions the store is offering. If it is a choice between a gallon of ice cream for $4.25 or two gallons for $5.00, it doesn't take a genius to figure out which is the better bargain.

One of the chain grocery stores in the South Florida area recently started a calendar promotion where in the center of the calendar are discounts for each month on different store items such as bakery, produce, and deli items. The customer not only gets the benefit of the discounts with the calendar, but it is free and displays local artists on each month's page.

In such a shaky economy, people have to be creative with the ways they save money. A trip to the grocery store can be affordable, even with a large family, if precautions are taken before shopping to insure spending does not get out of control. Planning and budgeting before hand, as well as having a snack, are always the best ways to guarantee a successful and affordable shopping trip.
