Everyone seems to have an opinion of the State of the Union address by President Bush. Everyone has a right to their opinion but I noticed one comment that was made by President Bush that does not seem to have received much or if any attention. The statement he made said that Americans do not care which party or which side of the isle you are on. He followed this by saying they just want their representatives and senators to work together for the good of the country.
This statement seems to have disappeared from any comments relating to the State of The Union speech. I feel this statement is a significant and bold statement to make. Americans are not dumb and they deserve to have their representatives and senators work for the good of the country in performing their duties. While it is beneficial to have a party system in this country Americans must understand the process of government. The reaction by many people I feel was politically inspired. The comments to the content of the address by President Bush should be on the merits of the speech not on a particular party or individual position for specific issues. It seems that comments made do not consider what they would do in the same situation. What people say about an issue may change as they are given the facts. The proposals by President Bush need to be given fair consideration and not dismissed.
Many times people make comments on what they would do in specific situations. This may or may not be the case as the facts are given to them when they are in the position to make a decision. My understanding of the governmental system is that information is provided to representatives and senators in key positions involving information that cannot be divulged to the public. In these cases it is not appropriate for negative comments to be made by these individuals knowing the true facts. It is a disservice to the American people. This does not mean to imply that any negative comments fit this scenario People have the right to make statements concerning issues and decisions made by our government representatives and senators. The difference is that they have no way of knowing how they would react given the same set of facts.
People making comments about decisions made by their local, state or national governmental officials should consider if the decisions made appear to be the best for our country. We may not always agree with the decisions made but we should respect those who are in a position to make them given the facts. Again the content of the speech by President Bush should be given fair consideration. Any President deserves that their State of the Union speech be given fair consideration. While individuals or party positions may not completely agree they should be willing to work to make decisions in the best interest of our country. They should not let their individual or party position impede accomplishing the best decision to be made based on the facts and impact of any decisions they make. The impact portion is the key. Would the decision have a negative or positive impact on the situation in question is what each government official must consider in making a decision.
