Why we make bad choices in life

Some people say that there are no bad choices in life, some say everything happens for a reason, and some might just say there's an equal and opposite reaction to the decision you make. But what if the decision you make it crucial and you can't learn from it? We make decisions based on how we feel. Some people make decisions on how other people feel or by peer pressure. It is very true that you learn from your mistakes, but some can't. Say you got into drugs or you became an alcoholic, not necessarily because of peer pressure and friends, but because of self doubt and you thought it was your only reassurance. How do you learn from your decision that you made, if you get in TOO deep? A friend of mine got into drugs pretty bad, and I guess you could say he just didnt want to get off em and straighten out his life. He was never straight, but he was one of the nicest and sweetest people you would ever meet. He would always think of others before himself, always. Thats how he was raised. He got into drugs about 2 or 3 years ago and finally I guess you could say that it took over him and he made a very bad decision and choice that he can maybe learn from, but how is it gonna help him? My friend decided one night to kill himself. So while you're saying you can always learn from your mistakes and bad choices, I want you to tell me how he is gonna learn from them. HOW? Even if he does learn from them, how is he going to do anything about it? You make bad decisions when your head isn't on straight or wen you want to be cool or maybe even when you just want to get away from life for a little bit. I mean my friend thought he could get away a little bit with doing drugs, it made him happier i guess thats what he thought. But now he's not going to be gone for a little bit. He's gone forever. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you make bad choices in life when you think they are best at that moment in time. When you think, "Hey, this is a good choice, this is what im going to do," and then the bad choices keep coming. Sometimes you learn from them, and sometimes you dont and can't.
