Is Jesus YOUR example in ALL things?
A popular question in Evangelical Christianity has been: What WOULD Jesus do? That question leaves the door open for much speculation, and that is exactly what we have much speculation. A more appropriate question is: What DID Jesus do? After all, to answer that question we do not have to speculate, but we can rely, with confidence, on the historical and biblical record, specifically the four gospels, to know for certain what Jesus did do.
But before we consider what Jesus did do, we should consider why Jesus is a reliable example that we should follow? In fact, not only why He is a reliable example, but why He is the ONLY example that we can rely upon 100%. The short answer and reason is: JESUS WAS SINNLESS! In other words, whatever Jesus did was right, and good, and lawful, and according to the will of His Father, God Almighty. Jesus is our reliable example because the WORD of GOD is GOD!
Obviously, those who do not accept the above premise, and do not accept and acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior, and cannot say with Thomas; "My Lord and my God!" will question, to one degree or another, whether what Jesus did is right for them, and will continue to speculate what Jesus would do.
Let's look then at the life of Jesus and extract a few representative examples from the four gospels, and see whether our life parallels His life. To be sure, the primary reason why God sired a son, in the flesh, was to redeem mankind from the penalty of death, through the suffering and sacrificial death of His firstborn Son, Jesus. Beyond that, of all the examples Jesus gave us, the most important one was to be the living example, of how to become a Son of God, how to be born into the Family of God, as He Himself was. We will come back to that example later on.
Here than are a few representative EXAMPLES of; What Jesus DID do? Ask yourself, if you are following in His footsteps, or, if you are following in the footsteps of someone else?
Matt. 1:18, 23 Now the BIRTH of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with CHILD OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (God). ...and his name shall be called Emmanuel (which means, GOD WITH US).
Mark 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was BAPTIZED by John in the Jordan.
Luke 2:42 And when he was twelve years old, they WENT up to Jerusalem after the custom of the FEAST (Passover).
Luke 2:46
