In the Philippines where families have very close ties, grandparents are always carefully paid attention to as part of the family. Families do not allow their elderly to be placed in a foster home where they are taken cared of by strangers. All elderly people are taken cared of by their family. They are taken in by children once they are too old to take care of themselves. Children are taught to respect the elderly and to take care of them. They have done their part in contributing for the welfare of the people and they need respect and care in return when they grow old. This is the reason why children are more aware of the elderly.
People old and young respect the elderly very much. Children are generally taught to respect and take care of elderly people. They work for the elderly who cannot work for themselves. Young people help their elderly in their daily chores. Grandparents are often taken in by the children especially when they are already too weak to take care of themselves. Most grandchildren love their grandparents and they pay great respect to them as was taught to them by their parents. Grandchildren serve their grandparents in a very noble way. They are served their food. They are taken to nice places where they could breathe and they are often pampered by the grandchildren who usually idolize them especially if they have great achievements in their younger days.
Grandparents are highly regarded by young children. They are often regarded by children as great and respectable people worthy of their respect. This is the reason why sometimes there is misunderstanding occurring between the children, grandchildren and the grandparents. This happens when the children love and idolize their grandparents more than their parents which often happen because grandparents often pamper grandchildren while parents do not pamper their children and instead they discipline them. Grandchildren often love it if the grandparents live with them because their parents will not restrict them so much with their activities.
Most grandparents love their grandchildren too much that they go to the extent of spoiling them. The children are therefore very happy with their grandparents living with them while their parents disagree with how they are being pampered by their grandparents. People simmer down as they grow older and most elderly do not get mad nor do they have time to discipline younger people. What they have in mind is to love and make their grandchildren happy. They say that grandparents love their grandchildren more than their children. I think this is true because elderly people have nothing to worry anymore. They have no responsibilities to think about and they just live content playing with their grandchildren. It always happens that the elderly instead of being taken cared of are the ones taking care of their grandchildren. This is why children love their grandparents very much.
