A truly wonderful place to enjoy on your vacation would be the beautiful area of Valdosta, Georgia. Located along I-75, fourteen miles from the Florida border, this town offers many unique charms. There is a theme park located at the south end of Valdosta called Wild Adventures. The park has water features and amusement rides (including nine coasters), an animal petting zoo, and live performances by prominent recording artists. The surrounding area has many attractions to view during your stay. There are several beautiful hotels located in and around Valdosta. There are golf courses in the north and south sections of town.
The town knickname is the "Azalea City" . . . and it is truly a site to behold in spring. The month of March is a wonderful time to view the azaleas and dogwoods in full bloom. One of the main streets through town is Patterson Avenue. There are beautiful magnolia trees planted along this scenic route. They begin blooming in May. It is a treat just driving along the avenue viewing the large colonial homes and area plantings. Each month from March until fall brings the different varieties of local blooming trees and bushes. The citizens of the town utilize all of these beauties in their landscaping. The gardenias are in full bloom by June. The aroma is wonderful. A special treat to view located in downtown Valdosta is the Turner Center for the Arts building with a water wall feature located at the front entrance. Valdosta State University is in the heart of the city, with grounds that are magnificently landscaped. Moody Air Force Base is a part of Lowndes County, Georgia, approximately seven miles north of Valdosta.
There are a variety of citizens from both educational and military backgrounds, creating a diverse population. The Southern Hospitality of the local community shines brightly. There are two large hospitals, with trained professionals for your travel emergencies. The mall features several anchor stores such as Sears, JC Penney and Belks. The area has numerous clothing and shoe stores, a Pet Smart and an Office Max, along with many outlet stores in the Lake Park area, south of town. Many restaurants offer fine dining as well as fast food. Children and adults will find several area attractions to appeal to vacationers.
In addition to the local attractions, there is the convenience of location. Tallahassee, Florida is just eighty miles west. Jacksonville is a quick one hundred twenty miles east, offering beautiful riverfront
