Looking for gift ideas for Father's Day 2009? Given that the economy is in a recession, you may want to cut back on spending this year.
There are plenty of nice things you can purchase for your father or husband, though, that are reasonably priced. Below are some suggestions for a perfect gift for the father in your life.
* Godiva chocolates
Godiva is one of the world's best chocolates, and Godiva delicacies always make for a nice present. You can select from a wide range of gift options online, or at a Godiva store in your local mall. There are various price ranges as well, and you cannot go wrong no matter what you select.
* Books
Books are often treasured presents, especially if they contain a handwritten note in the cover from the person who gave the book. There are countless books to choose from, and a bookstore associate can always make helpful suggestions.
If you are looking for a devotional, a great one is "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers. Bill O'Reilly's "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity" is a current bestseller. Or, how about selecting a classic such as Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace" or Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged?"
* Homemade goodies
This one is always a real winner: homemade cookies or cake. There is nothing quite like a dessert that is made from scratch, and your father or husband will appreciate the thought and effort behind it.
* Sports DVD
Is your father a Mets fan? Does he adore a particular college football team? If so, you can always give him sports memorabilia. Another option is to get him a DVD that highlights classic sports moments. The thrill of victory can be relived over and over again.
* Umbrella
So it sounds boring, but everyone can use a new umbrella on occasion. And, there are some really handsome ones out there designed just for men. It may not be the most extravagant gift, but it may likely be the most well used one.
* Gardening tools
If your dad enjoys spending time in the yard, then he may need some updated gardening tools. There are all kinds of cool things you can find at your local hardware store. Look around a bit, and you are bound to find something he will enjoy.
* Home Depot gift card
Men love Home Depot. And, they can always find things they want there! So, give the man in your life a gift card for Home Depot, and let him select his present. Gift cards are wonderful presents, as they give the recipient the opportunity to pick something he will really like.
* Time and attention
Perhaps one of the greatest things you can give your father is some quality time and attention, and not just on Father's Day. It seems that people stay incredibly busy these days, but spend so little time with loved ones.
Make a commitment to yourself to spend a bit more time with your father or husband for the remainder of the year. This gift will be a precious one indeed.
