In contemplating spirit in life, I think of the description from which I must accept in this vague title. To me Spirit conveys God to me, in His Spirit I try to live a righteous life. Only with His Spirit can I believe in Him and His majestic universe that He created. Without the Spirit of God in my life I am nothing, a floating bit of flotsam to be carried by the wind without destination or even conscious direction.

That is how I view the subject of spirit in life. I know that there are many people living out their lives without a spiritual guide or a belief in spirituality of any kind. They seem to have given up the occupation for which they were born, finding spiritual peace. This makes me curious as to how they find any peace in their lives at all, it appears to me that turmoil and fret must be their constant companions. I have been greatly relieved of much anxiety and strife through the Spirit of God and the Sacrifice of His beloved Son Christ Jesus.

I cannot imagine life without faith, without hope in a better place than this world. Sometimes these thoughts drive me to depression because I'm ready to be there, the hope of such peace calls to me, attracts me, and I often try to imagine it. But more often than not, the faith I have lends itself to me as peace in the strife of this worldly life, and without it I would surely live a much more depressed state of mind.

The spirit of a person is personal and it can be one of hope or hopelessness. Many people think of hope as a stepping stone to faith, as I do. I believe, therefore, I will attain my hopes and my prayers are answered even before I speak them, my faith teaches me that God knows all our desires and needs before we ever utter them. I am currently being taken by God into a time of testing, it would be easy for me to give up here. I have been greatly blessed in the past with worldly gifts. The money I made in the corporate world, the house I owned, the good credit standing I enjoyed, a fine car, many, many gifts of this world. This was a time that God used me and caused me to know that I would be taken care of by Him in every way no matter what may come.

When I was secure enough and I had no doubts about His gifts, where they came from, and why they were given, everything was taken away, and I met with great tragedy in my life, the death of my dear brother on whom I relied and loved greatly. Every single thing in my life changed, I became ill, I became dependent on Social Security Disability Insurance for my lively hood, I became very poor, with luxuries I had become accustomed to and I was grieved. But couriously, not unhappy about losing these things.

My brother embraced the Lord Jesus as his Saviour, so I had peace knowing my brother would live a far better life, I didn't lose the essential things in life that I needed, shelter, food, even personal hygiene articles, God was still providing and He assured me that He would always take care of me no matter what, but He never specified that it would be in riches that He would take care of me, just that He would.

So, I don't lament for these things, yes, they made my life more comfortable and less anxious, but God has His reasons for every season and everything under Heaven's time.
