Poetry: Broken love

What kind of father could do the things you have done?

How could you continue to break and hurt your son?

You said he was the most precious thing in your life,

Yet here you have thrown him, into a world of strife!

His heart is broken and he doesn't understand,

He never thought his father could be so cruel a man.

He spends his days and nights, working, all the time,

I know ,most of it,is to keep you off his mind.

How could you throw away that little boy who held your hand?

I guess it wasn't hard to choose between us and a can.

You have already broken me down to the bone,

The things you have done, turned my heart to stone.

Jesse is my life now, and first he will always be,

You ran away and left him all to me.

You will always be his dad,I think, in name only,

Jesse and I are separated, our lives are so lonely.

The choices you made will follow you to the grave,

In my heart, for Jesse,I still hope you will be saved.

As for me, this poem is a bitter token.

A written memory of two hearts, that are broken.
