Are There Easy Ways to Lose Weight?

Because weight loss has become a common goal for so much of the American population, weight loss products and methods are big business. All the products claim to finally make those hated pounds virtually melt off your body, making you the sexy model that you always secretly knew was hiding under all that unsightly fat. Unfortunately, we all know that none of these claims are true, no matter how much we want them to be. The bottom line is that you must take in fewer calories than your body burns in order to lose the weight. Age, heredity, and psychological factors further decrease the possibility that you can lose the weight easily. It's not called the "battle of the bulge" for nothing. However, all is not lost. Here are some ways to help you to lose the unwanted pounds safely and permanently.

One of the first things you can do is to determine what it is that will motivate you to lose the weight. Do you want to look good for an upcoming event or do you just want to look and feel better? Think about what goal or mind-set will keep you on track in your efforts to lose weight.

Next, let's talk about what it is that you need to actually do to lose the pounds. To start, eat five or six smaller meals each day. Instead of starving yourself then risking a serious binge in the evening, keep wholesome, fresh foods like fruits and vegetables handy. You need about five servings of those each day anyway. Change to whole grain breads and snacks to satisfy your hunger longer and to provide the fiber that your body needs. Don't restrict your diet too much. If you want to sample something higher in fat and calorie content, do so. A small amount can also help prevent a total binge later.

When you sit down to a meal, eat slowly. Enjoy your food instead of wolfing it down. If you ate the snacks and smaller meals throughout the day, ravenous hunger won't be a problem and you will be able to enjoy your meal. This way, you will be better able to determine when your body tells you it is satisfied. When you are full, Stop Eating. This is hard to do. Food is wonderful stuff. The flavor and texture of your favorite foods makes the temptation to take another bite (or two or three) very strong. Take this time to remember your motivation for losing weight and listen to your body when it tells you to quit eating.

Consider what you drink each day. Do you fill up on sodas and flavored coffee all day long or do you give your body what it needs to keep hydrated?
