Early morning tips for stress-reduction

Many people find the early morning hours to be a source of significant stress. There are several techniques a person can use to make these early hours run more smoothly.

Set Schedule

It is important to keep a regular schedule to reduce your stress level. Go to bed at a reasonable hour each and every work night. Set your clock so you have enough time to get things done in the morning. If you find you are too tired in the morning you need to go to bed earlier and get the sleep you need. Feeling tired can be a source of stress. If you stick to a set schedule you will find that things will begin to run better.

Organization

Another great stress reliever is organization. Make a plan of all the daily things that need to be done outside of work. This can include getting children ready for school, planning meals, and shopping trips for daily needs. Lay out your clothes for yourself and children the night before, have lunches made, and a list of tasks that need to be done. You can even put a planner on your fridge and keep track of your tasks. Use an electronic organizer or notepad to write down new tasks that come up throughout your day. Try to get members of your family to help with some of the tasks so your burden isn't as great. Learning to organize and plan ahead is an important tool in your early morning stress reduction.

Relaxation

You can reduce your stress levels by trying some simple relaxation techniques. When you first get up try stretching or other light exercise to get your blood flowing. A short walk would be beneficial as well. A warm bath or shower first thing in the morning will also help. Take the time to eat a good breakfast in the morning to calm your mood and give you the energy to get through those hectic morning hours. Make sure you set aside enough time in the morning for some relaxation even if it is five minutes with a cup of coffee and a few pages of a good book. In the spring and summer months you could spend a few minutes in a garden watering and caring for plants. If you are a real morning person and have extra time, consider going for a longer walk. You could meet up with friends for some morning breakfast and socializing. Finding time for yourself will really help to eliminate morning stress.

Stress doesn't have to be a morning nightmare. Go to bed early and give yourself enough time in the morning to get ready. Use organization and planning to help you through those days when time is tight. Try to spend some time in the morning for relaxation before your busy day. Even if you only use one of these techniques you will find your stress levels decreasing.
