Going to the prom is a momentous occasion in a young girl's life. One that you will remember and cherish forever. Choosing the perfect dress can be a confusing and stressful ordeal if you aren't sure which dress to buy. Here are a few things you should keep in mind when you are attempting to pick the perfect prom dress.

1. Involve your family graciously. They will be paying for your dress after all. It would make your Mother very happy to go on a few shopping excursions with you and feel that she is included in your big night. Your Mom may even have some suggestions and ideas that you can use to help you decide which dress is best for you. After all, nobody knows you better than her and she will love you enough to tell you if you are making a mistake. Listen to her advice. Chartreuse satin with lime green polka dots might be in fashion this year but you may be making a big mistake in choosing a dress with this color scheme. Ask her to take photographs of your shopping trips. Take the pictures home and compare the dresses and how they looked and felt when you tried them on. This will help you decide which dress works best and afterwards you can begin a memory album and reflect back on your prom for years to come.

2. Choose a dress that you like and that reflects who and what you are. If you detest frills and flounces and you buy that kind of dress you will be uncomfortable all night. Find out the fashion trends for that time of year but don't be a slave to them. Just keep them in mind when you go to the store. Although you do want to be an individual, many girls also want to fit in and not stand out for the wrong reasons. Choose a dress with comfort in mind. If it is too tight or the bodice threatens to give way with every breath you take, you will not have a happy evening as you will be self conscious all night.

3. If money is a problem there are places where you can pick up your perfect dress for much less than in the retail stores. Look online at places such as Ebay, where you can buy quality items at a fraction of the cost of regular outlets. Just type 'prom dress' into your search engine and you will be overwhelmed with choices. If you live in a larger town or city there are also places that sell once only worn prom dresses for almost nothing, to enable girls without much money to have a beautiful dress on their night. If you know prom is coming up you can get a job or save to make sure you have enough to purchase your special dress.
