If there's something weird in your neighborhood, who you going to call? Why Roto Rooter, or Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson more specifically of the SciFi channels hit Ghost Hunters. If only Sigourney Weaver had called the T.A.P.S. team first she could have fixed that nasty bathtub issue and found out that her son was being tracked by a malevolent spirit. Ghost Hunters follows the T.A.P.S. team (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) founded by Jason and Grant as they set out to prove if locations are indeed haunted or not.
This TV show takes ghost hunting to an entirely new level. Most shows typically set up, or appear to set up, fabricated ghosts and call it real or create dramatizations. In this unique series, we the viewers get to go along for the ride. The T.A.P.S. team start the show with a location being determined. These locations can range from historical places with a history of paranormal activity or a mom who is distraught over things their child is reporting. These two fathers are always looking out for families with children and offering their services to these type reports first and foremost. Upon reaching the location, Jason, Grant and a member of the technical team; usually lovable tattoo laden Steve Gonsalves, take a tour of the structure and get a brief history of all paranormal activity. Then the team is off setting up gizmo and gadgetry of every type. Included in their arsenal are mini dvd recorders, EMF detectors, Infra-Red Cameras, cameras, and hand held voice recorders. The crew is not lost on the unfamiliarity of the terms to its viewers and details what certain equipment is used for. Once in place, the team goes lights out and the hunt is on.
One of the best things about Ghost Hunters is that the T.A.P.S. team is out to disprove paranormal activity. Throughout the process of the investigation, each team member sets about "debunking" the claims. If an explanation can not be made for the claim then the team sets out looking for evidence of the activity itself. Sometimes they come up empty and other times, to the delight of the viewers, compelling evidence is found. A chill can be sent up your spine as you hear a disembodied voice or watch the hood of Grant get tugged by invisible hands.
Once the investigation is complete, the team reviews all matter of evidence searching for that compelling piece. The evidence is once again looked over from different angles to determine if the image could be reproduced in another way, is a natural phenomenon or a spirit. The same is done with any sounds captured on the hand held recorders. With all their data gathered, Jason and Grant present their findings to the home owner or establishment spokesperson. Depending on what their findings are, they may determine that the location is indeed haunted and give options on how to cope with the departed.
All in all, this show gives a great new insight into the world of the supernatural.
