Helium is in its extremely basic form an article writing site, where writers write articles to a plethora of varied categories and readers can refer to same in order to obtain information. The reality, however, is that Helium is much, much more than that and is in fact evolving and expanding on an ongoing basis to offer a great many wider and more exciting opportunities to those who are capable of writing quality articles.

Helium offers quality writers not only a magnificent opportunity to showcase their work but a wide variety of ways in which they can potentially earn some very good money by doing so.

Helium allows writers to write articles to the site in four principal ways. The first and most common way for a writer to do so is by selecting a category followed by a sub-category from the menu on the left of the home page and subsequently selecting one of the available titles to which they would like to write. They then write their article to the subject and their article will subsequently be rated anonymously by other members on the site and appear in what is effectively a league table for the title, its position dependant upon how well it is so rated.

Helium also allows writers to suggest their own titles to which to write. This is done from the writer's "My Helium" page and provided the title is approved, the writer will then be able to write their article. This can be a very beneficial method of writing to Helium as we shall see later on.

Helium also offers regular competitions to which writers can write in hope of securing one of the available cash prizes. Each competition has a number of titles and the writer writes to them in a similar way as above but, when these articles are rated, they are assigned points dependant upon where they subsequently appear in the league table. Points accumulated in each competition form a further league table which will ultimately determine the prize awards.

Marketplace on Helium is where external publishers request articles from Helium writers on a very specific subject in exchange for a one-off, stipulated fee. Writers submit their articles and if the article is chosen, the writer will receive their fee. Articles not chosen are subsequently posted to the Helium site.

As writers accumulate articles on Helium, they can build up a series of writing stars, assuming said articles are rated of high enough quality. They can also get rating stars by performing quality ratings on the works of others. Provided writers have at least one rating star, they can earn upfront payments from each article they write dependant upon the number of writing stars which they have. They can also earn a further dollar per article by suggesting, or by simply being the first to write an article to, any title.

Given that Helium also pays writers royalties "ad infinitum" on their articles subject to page views, we can conclude that for the quality writer, Helium is definitely one of the places they should wish to have a presence.
