The best TV cartoons for kids

Ok I admit it; I am addicted to several of my 8-year-old daughter's cartoons! Call me a geek, but I love a show with good writing and good characters, and there are some really great cartoons out there that have both of these elements. I will fill you in on my top four!

Topping my favorite cartoon list is easily Phineas and Ferb, shown on the Disney Channel and on Disney XD Networks. I found this show by complete accident, and now my whole family enjoys it! Its premise is quite simple in that Phineas and Ferb are a pair of half-brothers who try to figure out new things to do on a daily basis during their summer vacation. The boys are mad geniuses, however, and with what seems to be never-ending funds available for inventing, they come up with some very creative ways to spend their days. These boys have made roller coasters in their backyard, saved the planet from an alien invasion and traveled in time quite a few times! On the flip side of this cartoon is the secondary, but utterly connected story of Perry the Platypus (the boy's pet, who never talks, but is a really a secret agent!) and his arch-rival, the inept Dr. Doofinsmirtchz. While the boys create, this crazy scientist tries to take over the world, but is foiled by the platypus, and the two stories are always inter-connected for each episode. What makes this show so special is the writing. The writers of this show seem to have a format to work with for every episode, with catch phrases thrown in by different characters like Ferb, I know what we're going to do today and Where's Perry?, which are thrown into every episode in one way or another, but the creative placement of these phrases keeps every episode fresh and fun. As if this show needed more to make you love it, the characters perform a song during almost every episode, and the lyrics and tunes are so catchy, you may find yourself downloading them just for fun!

About a year or so ago, Cartoon Network released a show called Total Drama Island. This show is SO addictive! The premise is that 22 young adults are thrown together at a dilapidated Summer Camp and forced to compete for a prize of $100,000. There are several different stereo-typed characters; the Princess, the Crazy Chick, The Delinquent, The Party Boy, etc. The show is "hosted" by a Talk-Show Wannabe named Chris, and the only other Character is the crazy Chef, who makes disgusting things that most of the Campers cannot eat, (with the exception of Owen, who would lick a toilet seat
